As you’re becoming more successful in each of the Four quadrants of power – the mental quadrant, the structural quadrant, the martial quadrant and the social quadrant you must constantly lower the resistance to your becoming more and more powerful.

If you wish to truly lower the resistance to your becoming more powerful you should abandon:

• Lust
• Anger
• Greed
• Arrogance
• Overjoy

And you should be limiting or controlling your senses of:

• Sound
• Touch
• Color
• Flavor

Whoever Doesn’t Abandon And Control Their Resistance Will Soon Perish Even If They Have The Whole Earth.

Great endeavors
☰ ☷ ☲ ☵

The first thing which creates reputation and fame are great endeavors. You remember back in the Heaven quadrant I asked “What are you going to stand for from now on?”

Maybe now you’re beginning to see how all of these things are inter-related. How everything which rises must converge. How at the upper levels everything’s connected and everything’s the same.

The truth is very simple and the truth is universal across all 4 quadrants.

Great endeavors create reputation and fame. What are you going to stand for from now on? What is your great endeavor? What’s your highest purpose?

Having that highest purpose, embarking on great endeavors, and sharing that with people creates reputation and fame and draws similarly minded people to you.

Setting a great example
☰ ☷ ☲ ☵

Setting a great example also creates reputation and fame. This is closely related to the structural quadrant. The Earth quadrant. Setting a great example.

Being a true friend or a true enemy but not being neutral
☰ ☷ ☲ ☵

Does that sound familiar? You might have seen in the fire quadrant or the Martial quadrant that I taught you that people should be treated well or crushed.

The middle of the road gets run over by a Mack truck. You want to be a true friend or a true enemy but don’t be neutral within the context of social power. Within the context of martial power. You want to treat people well or you want to crush them.

Within the mental quadrant – the Heaven quadrant you need to be decisive and take decisive action. You need to commit to doing something a thousand percent or don’t commit to it at all.

If you pull out a weapon you must use it.

Showing yourself as a supporter of ability and honor talented people

Doing this creates reputation and fame

Entertaining people
☰ ☷ ☲ ☵

Finally entertaining people always creates reputation and fame. I think you probably understand that idea pretty clearly and easily. It’s very up front.

By now you’re probably starting to see and think to yourself “Wow, all of this stuff really is inter-connected” as you go higher and higher up. At this higher level, this 3rd level of power. The level of saints and sages. The truth really is the same across all 4 quadrants.

The Fire quadrant or martial power. The Water quadrant or social power. The Heaven quadrant or Mental power. The Earth quadrant or social power. Everything which rises must converge.

If you want to create reputation and fame and gain more social power and more social influence you want to engage in great endeavors, set a great example, be a great a friend or great enemy but don’t ever be neutral. You want to show yourself as a supporter of ability and honor talented people and finally you want to entertain people.

In addition to Sun Tzu, other strategists have suggested that war, and competition by proxy, is nothing to take lightly. It is something to always keep in mind.

As mentioned in Sima Fa:

Even though a state may be vast, those who

love warfare will inevitably perish. Even

though calm may prevail under Heaven, those

who forget warfare will certainly be

endangered.

And in Sunbin’s Military Methods, it says:

One who takes pleasure in the military will

perish, and one who finds profit in victory will

be insulted. The military is not something to

take pleasure in, victory not something

through which to profit.
